What are the requirements for a residence permit photo?

A useful application photo needs to meet both portrait requirements and the technical rules for a digital file.

The main portrait rules

The photo should be colour, sharp and undamaged. Face the camera directly with open eyes, closed lips and a natural expression.

Use a plain, light background. The face should take about 70–80% of the frame, from the top of the head to the upper shoulders.

  • Taken no more than 6 months before the application.
  • No dark glasses or anything covering the face.
  • The eye line should be parallel to the top edge of the photo.
  • Religious headwear can be an exception when the whole face remains visible.

Digital file requirements

For a digital MOS application, use a JPG file of at least 684 × 883 pixels and no more than 2.5 MB. The proportions should match a 35 × 45 mm photograph.

Check before you submit

Zoom in and review the face, eyes, background and file quality. The receiving authority makes the final decision — FotoPobyt helps prepare the photo but cannot guarantee acceptance.
